PIA A320-200 Lands on Wrong Runway in Lahore

A Pakistan International Airlines A320-200 conducted an approach to the wrong runway after diverting to Lahore on 17 January. Runway lighting was off at the time of the landing.

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Airbus A320-200 made an approach to the wrong runway after diverting to Lahore on 17 January 2025.

Pakistan International airlines flight PK150 had conducted a departure from Dammam King Fahd International Airport (DMM). The flight, operated by an Airbus A320-200, was a scheduled service bound for Multan International Airport (MUX), Pakistan.

Due to bad weather conditions in Multan, the flight had carried out a diversion. The diversion was made to Lahore Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE).

On arrival in Lahore, the flight was given the clearance to land on runway 36R Allama Iqbal International Airport. After receiving the clearance, flight crew carried out a landing on runway 36L. The runway lighting for runway 36L had been switched off at the time of the flights landing.

Despite this, the flight was able to land and clear the runway without further incident.

According to the online source Aviation Herald, PIA has reported that both the captain and first officer have now been grounded pending an investigation.

Flight data shows that flight PK150 had made a departure out of Dammam King Fahd International Airport at 0200 local time on 17 January.

The flighted then set course normally for the destination Multan International Airport, climbing to flight level FL360.

Whilst en route, flight crew made the decision to divert to Lahore due to bad weather at the intended destination.

The aircraft conducting the PK150 service to Multan, Pakistan was an Airbus A320-200, registered AP-BON. This is an 11.4 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Pakistan International Airlines.

It has been in operational service with the airline since April 2022. Prior to its present service, it was operated by the carrier Middle East Airlines (MEA) since its initial delivery from the factory in September 2013.
