Perth is set to take center stage in the aviation world, hosting Routes Asia 2025 from March 25-27. The aviation conference promises to be a pivotal event for the Asia-Pacific region’s air travel industry.

With Singapore Airlines as the Official Airline Partner, the event will attract over 1,000 delegates from more than 170 airlines and 300 airports, positioning Perth as a critical hub in the region’s aviation ecosystem.

Asia-Pacific Aviation Market: A Context of Rapid Growth

The timing of Routes Asia 2025 is particularly significant. The Asia-Pacific aviation market is experiencing unprecedented transformation. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the region is expected to account for 42% of global air passenger traffic by 2040. This is being driven by increasing economic prosperity, rising middle-class incomes, and enhanced connectivity.

Perth Airport’s Strategic Transformation

At the heart of this narrative is Perth Airport’s ambitious $5 billion investment program, a comprehensive strategy to redefine Western Australia’s aviation infrastructure. The airport will dramatically transform its capabilities through multiple strategic initiatives.

A new parallel runway will expand airport capacity and enhance operational flexibility, while the airport will upgrade terminal facilities to improve passenger experience.

The development includes two multi-story car parks with advanced roadworks, a comprehensive Terminal 2 upgrade to modernize existing infrastructure, and the airport’s first on-site hotel, catering to business and transit travelers.

Western Australian Deputy Premier Hon Rita Saffioti highlighted the strategic importance. “We’ve already secured or relaunched 18 direct international flights since border reopening. Routes Asia provides a platform to continue advocating for expanded services and showcasing Western Australia’s potential.”

Perth Airport’s Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer Kate Holsgrove elaborated on the broader vision. “This investment isn’t just about infrastructure. It’s about creating a world-class gateway that meets the evolving needs of airlines and passengers. We’re positioning Perth as a strategic connection point in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Economic and Strategic Implications

The conference represents more than a networking event. It serves as a critical platform for attracting new international airline routes. Western Australia’s economic potential, supporting tourism, international education, and export sectors will be squarely in the spotlight. It also showcases Perth’s strategic geographical advantage as a Western Gateway to Australia.

Perth Airport, Tourism WA, and the State Government will jointly drive the collaborative effort. It underscores a holistic strategy to drive regional growth and international connectivity.
