Passenger Dies On Cathay Pacific Boeing 777 in Hong Kong

It has emerged last weekend that a passenger onboard a Cathay Pacific Boeing 777 died in Hong Kong shortly before departure to Mumbai.

It has emerged last weekend that a passenger onboard a Cathay Pacific Boeing 777 died in Hong Kong shortly before departure to Mumbai.

Information has been released pertinent to the accident at hand, which we will get into in this article.

Cathay Pacific Flight CX663 – Hong Kong to Mumbai…


It has emerged last weekend that a passenger onboard a Cathay Pacific Boeing 777 died in Hong Kong shortly before departure to Mumbai.

Cathay Pacific flight CX663, where the passenger died onboard, is a routine scheduled flight between Hong Kong & Mumbai.

Furthermore, the aircraft operating the flight was B-KQL.

As per data from Planespotters.net, B-KQL is a 10.8 year old Boeing 777-300ER that was delivered to the airline in December 2013.

Of the 777-300ER variant, Cathay Pacific has 37 of them in their fleet.

Moreover, of that 37, all but two are in active service, with an average fleet age of 11.9 years.

As well as the 777-300ER, the airline has the following other aircraft in their fleet:

  • 13 Airbus A321s.
  • 43 Airbus A330s.
  • 48 Airbus A350s.
  • 20 Boeing 747s.
  • 17 Boeing 777-300s.

As per VNExpress, it is understood the incident involving the passenger’s death onboard Cathay Pacific flight CX663 to Mumbai happened before departure from Hong Kong.

Airline Expresses Regret Over Passenger Death…

It is understood that the passenger onboard Cathay Pacific flight CX663 Hong Kong-Mumbai collapsed, with immediate assistance provided.

Furthermore, it is understood he lost consciousness onboard, before being taken off the aircraft.

The 71 year old was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police are planning an autopsy.

Cathay Pacific acknowledged the incident and expressed regret over the death.

It is understood the aircraft continued on to Mumbai with a delay of around two hours.

The airline said this was due to the need of cleaning, disinfection and reconfiguration of the first aid kit.
