A PAL Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-400 inbound from Halifax, NS overran the end of the runway in St John’s on 1 May 2024.
PAL Airlines flight PB3072, a Dash 8-400 regional commuter operating from Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ), had aborted an initial approach attempt to RWY 10 St John’s International Airport (YYT).

Having executed a missed approach during its first landing attempt, the aircraft then entered a holding pattern before attempting its second landing approach.
After approximately 30 minutes holding, flight crew executed the second approach to RWY 10.
A landing was conducted from the second approach, but the aircraft overran the overshoot end of the runway.
The aircraft came to rest approximately 180 feet into the runway overshoot area, resulting in a temporary closure of the runway.
Airport weather conditions at the time indicated the visibility of 1000 m with fog and rain drizzle. RWY 10/28 was subsequently closed by NOTAM.
De Havilland Dash 8-400 C-GPNE
The aircraft conducting the PB3072 regional service from Halifax Stanfield (YHZ) was a de Havilland Dash 8-400, registered C-GPNE. This is a 16.6-year-old regional turboprop aircraft now belonging to the carrier PAL Airlines.
The aircraft has been in operational service with the airline since October 2023. Prior to that, it passed through a number of operators since its original delivery in January 2008.
