Orlando to Nassau: Southwest Airlines Launches New Daily Service

Southwest Airlines will launch a new daily service connecting Orlando Florida to Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, from 4 June.

Travelers seeking a tropical escape this summer will be delighted by the news of Southwest Airlines’ new daily service connecting Orlando, Florida, to Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas.

This convenient route, launching June 4th and operating through August 4th, 2024, offers a seamless connection between Central Florida’s vibrant metropolis and the heart of the Bahamas.

Nassau Flights Welcomed by Bahamas

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism welcomes this development with enthusiasm. The Honourable I. Chester Cooper, Bahamas Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments, and Aviation gave comment.

“Southwest Airlines’ decision to inaugurate daily flights to Nassau underscores the success of our government’s ongoing efforts to attract more visitors to our stunning island nation,” he stated.

The Bahamas has witnessed significant growth in tourism, with a record-breaking 9.65 million foreign visitors arriving in 2023.

Air travel played a crucial role in this success, with over 1.7 million passengers arriving by air. This number exceeds pre-pandemic levels by 3.5% and represents a notable 17% increase compared to 2022 figures.

This momentum continues in 2024, with foreign air arrivals surpassing 504,000 in the first quarter alone, representing a 7.3% growth over the same period in 2023.

End-of-year air arrival projections even suggest the possibility of exceeding the 2 million mark.

Presence in Key Florida Markets

“Building strategic partnerships with airlines and industry stakeholders is a cornerstone of our tourism growth strategy,” emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Cooper.

“We are actively expanding our presence in key Florida markets such as Orlando, West Palm Beach, and Tampa to attract a wider range of visitors to Nassau, Grand Bahama Island, and our Family Islands.”

Southwest in Orlando

Southwest Airlines’ new route perfectly aligns with this strategy, taking over the Orlando service previously offered from Fort Lauderdale.

The US carrier boasts a long-standing presence in Orlando, having served the city since 1996. It currently supports nonstop flights to over 50 destinations across the United States and the Caribbean.

Furthermore, they hold the distinction of being the dominant carrier at Orlando International Airport. The airline accounts for over 20% of total passenger traffic.

This new route signifies a seamless travel experience for passengers. It builds on Southwest’s established presence in Orlando and their commitment to affordability.

This summer service is also poised to make a significant contribution to the Bahamas’ tourism industry.

Travelers from Central Florida can now look forward to a convenient and potentially budget-friendly escape.

The pristine beaches and vibrant culture of the Bahamas is now within affordable reach for many more travelers.
