Ontario International Airport (ONT) is gearing up for a summer unlike any other. With a busy Independence Day holiday period looming, ONT is anticipating a record-breaking season.
The Southern California airport anticipates significant passenger growth amid the looming 2024 Independence Day holidays.
Independence Day Surge Expected
The upcoming Independence Day holiday period serves as a microcosm of the anticipated summer rush. Passenger volume is projected to soar by 10.3% compared to last year.
This translates to a staggering 117,805 travelers expected to traverse the Southern California gateway between July 2nd and 7th.
“We’re witnessing a surge in travel demand, and we’re delighted that more and more passengers are choosing ONT,” remarked Atif Elkadi, CEO of the Ontario International Airport Authority.
“Our unwavering focus on convenience and creating a positive travel experience is what truly sets us apart.”
“From streamlined arrival and departure processes to a diverse range of culinary delights and unique retail options, our terminals are designed to cater to every traveler’s needs, ensuring a memorable journey through ONT.”
Airlines are responding to the increased demand by offering over 153,000 seats on flights to and from ONT during the holiday period.
This represents a significant increase of nearly 15% compared to the same period in 2023. It ensures ample options for travelers planning their Independence Day getaways.
Record-Breaking Summer on the Horizon
To ensure a stress-free travel experience during this busy period, airport officials recommend arriving at ONT two hours before domestic flights and three hours ahead of international departures.
Additionally, booking parking in advance is highly recommended, especially for those departing during peak travel times.
The anticipated surge during Independence Day is just the beginning. With a projected overall increase of 15% in passenger volume compared to last summer, ONT is poised to welcome a record-breaking 2.1 million travelers throughout the season.
This growth reflects a broader trend, as 2024 is shaping up to be a banner year for the airport. Overall passenger volume is expected to surpass 7 million – the highest since transitioning to local control in 2016.
The Popularity of ONT
ONT’s popularity can be attributed to several factors, including its convenient location in the Inland Empire, approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
This strategic placement offers travelers an alternative to the hustle and bustle of major coastal airports.
Additionally, ONT boasts the distinction of being named California’s most popular airport according to J.D. Power’s latest North America Airport Satisfaction Study.
This recognition is a testament to the airport’s commitment to providing a seamless and enjoyable travel experience.
Beyond convenience, ONT offers a wide range of nonstop commercial jet service to over two dozen destinations across the United States, Mexico, Central America, and Taiwan.
This connectivity allows travelers to explore diverse locations and fulfill their vacation dreams, all with a smooth and efficient departure from Ontario International Airport.
As passenger volume continues to rise, ONT is committed to ongoing improvements. The airport is actively investing in infrastructure upgrades and expansion projects to accommodate the growing demand.
This dedication to continuous improvement ensures that ONT remains a premier travel hub for Southern California and beyond.
