On arrival, the flight was cleared for an approach to runway 25. During the landing, the aircraft continued into the overshoot end of the runway. After overrunning the active runway, the aircraft came to a stop approximately 150m (500 feet) from the runway end.
This placed the flight approximately 15m (50 feet) from the sea by the time that it came to rest. The aircraft was disembarked from the position via emergency escape slides.
According to the online source Aviation Herald, the airline subsequently stated the runway excursion was caused by a combination of weather conditions. Strong winds and a slippery runway were noted at the time of landing.
According to the report, one passenger observed that the aircraft appeared to conduct a late touchdown before skidding off the runway overshoot end.
After the aircraft was brought to a stop, emergency services assets attended the scene and provided assistance during the emergency disembarkation.
