Norse Atlantic Airways has finalized a wet lease agreement with Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo, to supply two additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
This deal completes the six-aircraft arrangement outlined in a letter of intent (LOI) announced on November 29, 2024.
The agreement strengthens Norse Atlantic’s financial stability by securing long-term revenue and reducing market risks. It supports the airline’s strategy of maximizing fleet efficiency by balancing wet lease contracts with its own scheduled routes.
Completion of 6-Aircraft Wet Lease
“This milestone deepens our collaboration with IndiGo, one of the world’s leading airlines,” said Bjørn Tore Larsen, CEO and founder of Norse Atlantic Airways. “Leasing six aircraft strengthens our financial and strategic position in a competitive market.”

The two new aircraft will begin operations in early 2026, serving long-haul routes from India. The agreement has an initial term of six months. It has the potential to extend up to 18 months, pending regulatory approval.
Both airlines say they are open to further extending the partnership. The first aircraft, delivered in March, is already operating on IndiGo’s Delhi-to-Bangkok route.
The commercial terms for the additional aircraft match those shared in the November 2024 LOI announcement. This consistency ensures transparency and reinforces Norse Atlantic’s commitment to stable partnerships.
IndiGo: A Rising Global Force
IndiGo is India’s largest airline, dominating in passenger numbers and fleet size. It ranks among Asia’s and the world’s top airlines by passengers carried, fleet size, and market capitalization.
In the 2025 financial year, IndiGo transported over 118 million passengers. While the airline primarily operates domestic and regional short- to medium-haul flights, it is expanding into long-haul markets.
To support this growth, IndiGo has ordered 30 Airbus A350-900 wide-body aircraft, with an option for 70 more. Deliveries are set to begin in 2027.
This wet lease agreement with Norse Atlantic provides IndiGo with immediate access to long-haul aircraft, bridging the gap until its new fleet arrives. The partnership allows IndiGo to test and expand its long-haul network efficiently.

Norse Atlantic’s Strategic Vision
Founded in January 2021 by Bjørn Tore Larsen, Norse Atlantic Airways focuses on affordable long-haul flights. The airline operates a fleet of 12 modern, fuel-efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
These aircraft serve destinations like New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, Bangkok, Cape Town, Oslo, Stockholm, Athens, London, Berlin, Rome, and Paris.
Norse Atlantic’s first flight, from Oslo to New York, took off on June 14, 2022.
By combining wet lease agreements with its own network, Norse Atlantic optimizes its fleet usage. This approach minimizes downtime and maximizes revenue, ensuring the airline remains competitive in a volatile industry.
Looking Ahead
The expanded partnership with IndiGo marks a significant step for Norse Atlantic. It not only secures revenue but also strengthens ties with a major player in global aviation.
For IndiGo, the agreement supports its ambition to become a key player in long-haul travel. As both airlines navigate regulatory approvals and market dynamics, their collaboration could pave the way for further growth.
This deal highlights Norse Atlantic’s ability to adapt and thrive in a challenging industry. With a focus on efficiency and strategic partnerships, the airline is diversifying to ensure future success.
