AMSTERDAM – EasyJet has selected AirFi to support its ambitions to deliver a new and industry-leading digital onboard experience. The deal was signed in Amsterdam during the ongoing World Aviation Festival.
Starting October 4, the airline will initially test AirFi’s portable streaming solution, the AirFi box, which will allow passengers to connect to and browse the onboard shop menu while in flight, along with all passenger-facing aspects of the user experience onboard, including flight and safety information, destination content, inflight magazine content and a selection of games.
All of these services will be free of charge to customers.
The content can be accessed on a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop via a local Wi-Fi network created by the AirFi boxes onboard.
First of all, passengers flying onboard any of the easyJet Swiss fleet of 27 A320 family aircraft from Geneva and Basel will be able to use new features.
Good deal for both sides
Both companies highly praise the new cooperation and believe it will bring tangible benefits to all. For AirFi, having a major player like easyJet in its portfolio provides a very good opportunity to develop its technology beyond its current image.
“We selected AirFi to work with us, having been impressed by their overall capabilities and the flexibility of their systems and platforms. We are confident they are the right partners to support us in realizing our ambitions to deliver an industry-leading, digital onboard experience for our customers across Europe”, commented Simon Cox, Director of Inflight Retail at easyJet.
Job Heimerikx, CEO of AirFi, pointed out that easyJet is and has always been a trailblazer in the air transport industry, and AirFi is proud to have been selected by such a discerning partner.
“The team at easyJet has challenged us to bring forward best-in-class solutions and innovative business models and to explore a fully customized solution that will further enhance the inflight experience for its customers.”
“This opportunity has helped us to grow in many ways, and we look forward to a very fruitful partnership”, adds Heimerikx.
AirFi box
The AirFi box is like the nucleus that drives and connects our suite of solutions. It creates both the onboard Wi-Fi network and the supporting IT infrastructure that brings your IFE and retail offerings to life.
Providing 24 hours of battery life and the option for semi-embedded fully powered installation, AirFi delivers touch-free operation, 1 TB+ storage, appless DRM, and 3G/4G capabilities.
Often imitated but never duplicated – the powerful AirFi box is the original portable IFE solution.
