LONDON – Iberia and TAAG Angolan Airlines have announced their intent to work closely with each other after it announces a new codeshare and an interline agreement.
This new ‘partnership’ comes after the new Luanda-Madrid-Luanda route which began on the 27th of June 2022. This new agreement is set to benefit both carriers.
The demise of the pandemic brought the industry to its knees, and this partnership, according to the TAAG, will benefit the airline and that is a crucial parcel of recovery in a post-covid world. It is crucial in this day and age to force meaningful partnership as one could no longer stand on their own.
The codeshare and the interline agreement enable passengers flying TAAG from Africa to fly through Madrid, Iberia’s base through numerous destinations in Europe, Latin America, and North America, totaling over 100 destinations in 43 countries.
This inevitably brings Angolans closer to the world. On the same note, Iberia passengers are now finding it easier to fly to Angola, other destinations in Southern Africa, and even to Brazil using TAAG’s network.
TAAG’s destinations include Johannesburg, Cape Town, Windhoek, Maputo, Kinshasa, Lagos, Lisbon, São Paulo, and São Tomé.
As a result, this would also strengthen Luanda Airport as a regional hub in Southern Africa, raising its competitiveness, hopefully against the likes of Cape Town International Airport in the foreseeable future. The new route to Madrid will be TAAG’s 10th international destination.
The new partnership is more than just aviation but is viewed as a larger agenda. This will enhance ties between Angola and Spain in the realms of economic, social, cultural, and tourism domains.
As has been mentioned in the other article, the visit of Spanish President Pedro Sanchez, marked a major milestone for bilateral relations, with the opening of Madrid and an interline agreement with Iberia being a crucial part of this new era.
Javier Sánchez-Prieto, Chairman and CEO at Iberia said: “TAAG is pleased to announce this new codeshare and interline agreement with IBERIA.”
“In addition to increasing connectivity between Europe and Africa, it will allow us to expand our range of destinations and place Luanda as a relevant hub in the Austral African region.”
“We are delighted to announce this codeshare and interline agreement with TAAG which will bring Spain and Angola closer together and will boost tourism and business travel between the two countries.”
“Iberia and TAAG Angola Airlines customers will benefit from each other international network.”
“This agreement reinforces our commitment to expand our network in new markets, such as Africa, and improve the connectivity between Spain and the rest of the world. Currently, Iberia´s network includes over 134 destinations in 43 countries”.
