Partnership Between Qatar Airways & Malaysia Airlines Strengthened Through Codeshare

LONDON – The Malaysian and Qatari flag carriers strengthened ties after Malaysia Airlines’ announced plans to launch a non-stop service from Kuala Lumpur to Doha on 25 May.

The two capital cities of Doha and Kuala Lumpur are becoming closer and more connected than ever.

The two airlines will embark on a codeshare expansion which adds 34 airports to the existing 62 codeshare destinations.

The codeshare expansions will lure travelers globally to consider flying with Qatar and Malaysia Airlines even more.

Moreover, passengers taking advantage of this partnership will have their travel experience elevated, with a single ticket including check-in, boarding, and baggage-check processes, frequent flyer benefits, and world-class lounge access for the entire trip.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “We share a close and deep bond with Malaysia Airlines and welcome their new non-stop service between Kuala Lumpur and our home in Doha, Hamad International Airport.”

“With this strategic partnership, we are committed to delivering greater choice and connectivity to our customers around the world. We are experiencing a new optimism in air travel and expect a strong rebound in global demand.”

“With our dynamic partnership with Malaysia Airlines, we are aiming to provide unparalleled service and a superior travel experience for our customers.”

Malaysia Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer, Captain Izham Ismail, said:

“We are excited to deepen our cooperation with our long-standing oneworld partner Qatar Airways to bring the world closer to our customers with more choices and flexibility, exceptional services and innovative products, while upholding highest operational safety, just as passengers begin to travel again following the reopening of borders.”

“As we move into the endemic phase, this strategic cooperation shows both carriers’ commitment to offering an unrivaled range of value-added services to passengers and reflects the agility and resilience in facing the pandemic challenges.”

“This partnership is opportune in our efforts to boost air traffic and expedite recovery to pre-pandemic levels, while also enhancing our global brand visibility.”

Malaysian Airlines on 25th May 2022, will inaugurate its new route from Kuala Lumpur to Doha, and this means that originating passengers from Kuala Lumpur will have access to 62 codeshare destinations with Qatar Airways. Vice-versa, Doha connecting passengers can efficiently transfer to 24 destinations flown by Malaysian Airlines, both International and Domestic. Key destinations from Malaysian Airlines are Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul, Hong Kong, and Ho Chi Minh City.

This partnership will put Kuala Lumpur into a more prominent position, and strengthen the city as a whole.

This will make Kuala Lumpur into a competitive aviation hub, competing with the likes of Bangkok, but still a far cry from Singapore – Changi Airport.

Passengers will have a better option connecting from the Middle East, and Europe to places in Oceana like Adelaide, Sydney, Auckland, and Christchurch via its Kuala Lumpur hub.

This will also indeed help the ailing Malaysian flag carrier to feed in more passengers during the post-pandemic recovery phase.
