LONDON – Multiple diversions are occurring currently due to Runway 23R at Manchester Airport being damaged, with early reports indicating a pothole.

Seeing a Diversion…

KL1075 was one of the flights that had to divert, with Editor-in-Chief James Field getting footage of the flight turning onto the final at Liverpool Airport’s Runway 27.
The RadarBox screenshot shows that the aircraft held for a while just north of Manchester Airport before diverting into Liverpool, with the aircraft low on fuel.
This is a developing story, and we will have more on this story ASAP.

UPDATE #1 @ 1333 UK time – Aircraft are currently landing on Runway 23L at Manchester Airport, which is causing delays with departures due to the lack of exit points on that runway.

UPDATE #2 @ 1337 UK time – Official confirmation that Runway 23R is closed until further notice.

UPDATE #3 @ 1345 UK time – BA1390 also diverted into Liverpool. You can see the ADS-B data from RadarBox that shows the holds it commenced before continuing to Liverpool.
UPDATE #4 @ 1349 UK time – That is probably it for diversions at this time; we will advise when 23R is back open again, although no time scale indicated as of yet.
