LONDON – As part of its plan to increase domestic connectivity, IndiGo, India’s leading low-cost carrier, commenced its new direct flights from Bhopal to Udaipur effective November 01.
The new flight is to be an RCS route in winter schedule for 2022. The route inauguration ceremony was attended by the Honorable Union Minister for Civil Aviation – Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia and other eminent dignitaries from Bhopal.
The addition of this new route from Bhopal will enhance connectivity between Western and Central India.
Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Strategy and Revenue Officer, IndiGo said, “We are pleased to launch the new exclusive Bhopal-Udaipur route, which will strengthen the regional accessibility between both the states.”
“The flights between Bhopal and Udaipur are under the UDAN scheme. The direct connection will between the capital of Mewar Kingdom and India’s one of the greenest cities will cater both business and leisure travellers and prove to be a bridge between the two regions.”
“We will strive to stay true to our promise of affordable fares, on-time performance, courteous and hassle-free service across our wide network.”
Bhopal and tourism
These destinations are known for their breath-taking scenic tourist locations and also serve as manufacturing centres of various industrial goods.
Bhopal is known as the City of Lakes due to its various natural and artificial lakes and has major industries engaged in producing cotton textile, jute, and electrical products.
Udaipur is righteously known for its rich historical wealth in terms of forts, palaces, and lakes. Enhanced accessibility in these cities will help in magnifying the socio-economic and cultural growth of the country.
The airline says that these new regional flights are designed to cater to both business and leisure travellers.
Recent domestic network expansion
IndiGo’s announcement of further regional services comes amidst a raft of new domestic route inaugurations as the carrier aggressively extends its connectivity.
Recent route additions have included Mumbai to Gwalior direct services and the establishment of services between Indore and Chandigarh.
Last month the carrier announced the inauguration of eight regional route services operating between Jammu (IXJ) – Ahmedabad (AMD), Bhubaneshwar (BBI) – Ranchi (IXR), Udaipur (UDR) – Bhopal (BHO), and Chandigarh (IXC) – Indore (IDR).
AviationSource recently reported that IndiGo’s on-time performance (OTP) figures has slipped slightly in recent months, with rival carrier Air India topping it slightly on OTP for three consecutive months.
Whether the recent aggressive domestic route expansion plays a part in the performance slip is yet to be seen.
