LONDON – Earlier this week saw flydubai inaugurate services between Dubai and Pisa, Italy, as the first-ever flight connecting Dubai with the Italian destination.

The carrier is operating this route on a three times per-week basis, with the schedule as follows below:

Emirates will also codeshare on this route, offering further route connectivity onwards from both Pisa and Dubai.

Commenting on the inaugural was Ghaith Al Ghaith, the CEO of flydubai:

“We are excited to launch our third point in Italy this summer with our inaugural service to Pisa.”

“Our strong business model and growing fleet have enabled us to offer passengers from across our network more choices for travel, and we can expect Pisa to be a popular destination for travelers from the UAE and GCC to discover the beauty of the Tuscany region.”

“The start of flydubai operations to Pisa also reflects our commitment to opening up previously underserved markets and providing direct air links to Dubai. We look forward to welcoming our passengers on board.”

Marco Carrai, Chairman of Toscana Aeroporti S.p.A., said: “Today we inaugurate the connection between Pisa and Dubai and the beginning of the collaboration with the flydubai airline.”

“We are facing a unique opportunity for the future development of our region.”

“We are proud as Toscana Aeroporti to contribute to increasing the tourist and economic opportunities of our territory and to make Tuscany stronger through the restart and expansion of its airports.”

Italy is a big market for flydubai at present, with Pisa now joining Catania and Naples, with Catania becoming a new addition as well, with the service launched on June 24.

FZ1295 arrived in Pisa at around 1200 local time and headed back to Dubai an hour and a half later as FZ1296.

The flight itself was operated by A6-FNB, one of flydubai’s Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft, which is three years old at the time of writing this post.

The next flight will commence over the course of today, with a previous flight occurring on June 26 as well.

Preparing for a Busy Summer…

The Dubai-based premium low-cost airline expects passenger levels to cross the three million mark across the board this summer season.

FlyDubai expects this year to be a very busy season, with a growth of 43% in ASKM (Available Seat per Mile) from July to September, when compared to the pre-Covid base year of 43%.

The airline also expects this summer to be a record-breaking summer. Before this summer FlyDubai also recorded a strong 1st Quarter due to a surge in travel demand.

The airline is expecting to average 8,500 departures per month for this summer period, across 102 destinations. This is impressive as this exceeds the baseline of 2019.

Chief Executive Officer at Flydubai, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said at the time: “While the global aviation sector has been slowly recovering from the repercussions of the pandemic, we have seen Dubai steadfast in its approach to enable the return to free flows of trade and tourism.”

“The decisions made early on in the pandemic have enabled us to ramp up our operations to cater to the pent-up demand in record time. This would not have been possible without the hard work of our people, the collaborative approach taken by the key stakeholders in the UAE, and the confidence our passengers have in our operations.”
