LONDON – Alex Cruz, the former CEO of British Airways has been rumored to become the new CEO of Air India.

According to Saurabh Sinha of The Times of India, This move follows on from The Tata Group taking over the airline last week, as the airline now looks to incorporate a new vision towards operations.

Cruz was the CEO & Chairman of British Airways for five years and was responsible for a lot of the actions the airline took during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This includes the axing of 13,000 jobs back in October 2020 in order to save as much money as possible during that time.

For an airline stricken by a crisis like Air India, Cruz would probably be the best option for the carrier due to such previous experience within the International Airlines Group as well.

The Tata Group has not openly commented on a potential Cruz leadership, but the fact this is getting some traction in India would potentially lay some weight behind the rumours.
