LONDON – On August 16, Emirates announced that it will be adding its flagship Airbus A380 services to the South Indian city of Bengaluru.

The New Indian A380 Service

Marking Emirates’ latest announcement surrounding their flagship Airbus A380 aircraft, Emirates will become the first ever airline to serve the SuperJumbo to Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR).

This new service adds to Emirates’ list of over 30 destinations that their Airbus A380 currently serves and its second overall city in India alongside its existing services to and from Mumbai, which Emirates has served with the Airbus A380 since 2014.

The Airbus A380 from Emirates joins their Boeing 777’s that already serve Bengaluru, and will both be served daily to the South Indian city. Emirates serves both their Boeing 777-200LR (Long Range) and Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) aircraft to Bengaluru.

The new A380 service will commence on October 30 and will be on flights as follows –

  • Airbus A380 Services – All times are local.
    • On October 30, flight EK568 leaves Dubai International Airport (DXB) at 21:25 pm and arrives at Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) at 02:30 am the following morning.
    • From October 31, the return flight EK569 will leave Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) at 04:30 am after a two-hour turnaround and arrive back at Dubai International Airport (DXB) at 07:10 am.

Emirates will place its three-class layout Airbus A380s on the daily Bengaluru service, of which Emirates has 98 three-class layouts Airbus A380s in its fleet of 119 total A380 airframes. Emirates has multiple three-class layouts on their Airbus A380, and they are as follows:

  • 14 First Class seats, 76 Business/Premium Class seats, and 429 Economy seats.
  • 14 First Class seats, 76 Business/Premium Class seats, and 427 Economy seats.
  • 14 First Class seats, 76 Business/Premium Class seats, and 401 Economy seats.
  • 14 First Class seats, 76 Business/Premium Class seats, and 399 Economy seats.

As well to their Airbus A380s, Emirates has a total of 134 Boeing 777s in its fleet, of which 10 are Boeing 777-200LRs, and the remaining 124 are Boeing 777-300ERs.

Overall

With Emirates adding their second Airbus A380 destination in India, it certainly shows how rapid-growing the Indian air travel market is growing, and it wouldn’t be surprising if we see Emirates adding their Airbus A380 to some of their other Indian services, such as Delhi, Chennai or Kolkata.

Of course, it’s also worth noting that to enable the Airbus A380 the serve these airports, the airport will need to be able to cater to such an aircraft, such as wide enough taxiways, ramps, and gates.
