LONDON – Today marks 20 years since easyJet launched its first based flight from London Gatwick.
The first flight was to Barcelona on February 1, 2002.
Since then, the airline has handled over 200 million people from that airport in the last 20 years and has grown significantly over there to now become the airport’s largest carrier.
For Summer 2022 in particular, the airline will be offering 1.1 million extra seats including new routes to Rijeka.
Commenting on the 20th anniversary was the airline’s country manager, Ali Gayward:
“easyJet is delighted to be celebrating 20 years at our London Gatwick base, our largest base in the network.”
“Over the last two decades, we have remained committed to providing even more choice for our customers traveling to and from the airport, growing our operation to become Gatwick’s largest airline.”
“And we remain focussed on growth at Gatwick; we recently added over a million extra seats from the airport for next summer and new routes such as our new flights to Krk off the coast of Croatia, continuing to provide passengers with an ever-greater range of destinations all with a convenient schedule, low fares and great service for both leisure and business travelers.”
This is a considerable feat from easyJet, and will no doubt continue to utilize London Gatwick a lot going into the future.
