BERLIN – The new Berlin airport handled almost 10 million passengers in 2021.
That is almost 900,000 passengers more than in 2020, and less than a third compared to 2019 when 35,65 million passengers used Berlin’s airport.
In December 1,06 million passengers used the Berlin Brandenburg International airport.
During the holidays, the last two weeks of 2021, over 640,000 passengers were handled.
2021 started slow for the airport, only handling 1,59 million passengers in the first half of the year while handling 8,36 million passengers in the second half of the year.
October was the busiest month for air travel in Berlin, with over 1,7 million passengers using the airport.
The airport also handled 27,500 tons of cargo in 2021, which is about 7,500 tons less than pre-pandemic.
With only 9,95 million passengers handled, the airport missed its goal of handling 10 million passengers in 2021.
