American Eagle CRJ900 Diverts to Washington – Cabin Filled with Smoke

LONDON – On Saturday, January 8th AA5144 operated by American Eagle diverted to Washington IAD after the cabin filled with smoke.

Flight 5144 is a daily flight from Providence to Charlotte and is operated by a CRJ900. The Flight was cruising at 28.000ft when the crew declared an emergency and requested to divert.

AA5144 completed a safe landing on runway 01C at IAD and was met by fire services.

The flight was operated by a six-year-old CRJ-900LR with registration N572NN. The aircraft hasn’t left IAD since the diversion.

A replacement aircraft flew the passengers from Washington to Charlotte where they arrived with a delay of over 5 hours.
