LONDON – International aircraft lessor Air Lease Corporation (ALC), have announced a lease placement of three Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, to Italy’s newest airline Aeroitalia.

The agreement

On 1 November, Air Lease Corporation (ALC), a worldwide aircraft lessor, announced a new long-term leasing agreement with Aeroitalia, with the agreement consisting of three Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

In the announcement, it is said that the three airframes in question are scheduled to be delivered to the Italian carrier from Air Lease Corporation’s order book together with Boeing, which will begin in 2023 through 2024.

Aeroitalia currently has a fleet of three Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with a further two awaiting delivery, according to Planespotters.net information. According to the data provided, one of the Boeing 737’s in service is on a leasing agreement with Air Lease Corporation.

With a small relation between Air Lease Corporation and Aeroitalia already, the 737 MAX agreement could act as a catalyst for bigger relations and orders with the lessor in later time.

ALC statements

With the new agreement, Executive Chairman at Air Lease Corporation, Steven F. Udvar-Házy, commented: “We are very pleased to announce this placement of three new Boeing 737-8 aircraft with Aeroitalia,”

“The capabilities of the Boeing 737-8 will greatly enhance Aeroitalia’s operational efficiency and expanding fleet with the most modern, fuel-efficient aircraft.”

Air Lease Corporation’s Vice President of Marketing, AJ Abedin, also commented the agreement, saying: “With this placement, Aeroitalia’s team of seasoned airline industry veterans are prudently growing their fleet and operations to meet the needs of the airline’s steadily growing business.”

Aeroitalia statement

On the agreement, Chief Executive Officer of Aeroitalia, Gaetano Intrieri, said: “With this lease agreement, we strengthen our business relations with ALC. We consider this deal a very important step for Aeroitalia in its plan for sustainable green growth and to support the Italian market.”

“Our team is very proud of the support and trust we have received from ALC, one of the most important worldwide lessors. Let me give a special thanks to Mr. Hazy for believing in our project.”

New London service

Just recently, Aeroitalia revealed a new route connecting the Italian city of Milan, with London. The route is set to commence in December of this year, and will be flown from Milan’s Bergamo Airport (BGY), to London Heathrow (LHR).

Aeroitalia is primarily headquartered and based at Forli Int’l Airport (FRL), but will use Milan Bergamo (BGY) as a second base for this winter season.

With this new route, Aeroitalia also becomes the first airline to connect Milan’s Bergamo Airport with London Heathrow, as other operators out of Bergamo, such as Ryanair (FR), operate their flights to the low-cost airports in the U.K, such as London Stansted (STN)
