New Pacific Airways and Ravn Alaska have announced the departure of CEO Rob McKinney. McKinney’s decision to step down stems from a difference in vision with the airline group’s ownership and Chairman.
The step down for the lead position will now take place with immediate effect.
“Leading the revival of Ravn Alaska from bankruptcy and launching America’s newest Part 121 airline has been an incredible privilege,” McKinney said.
“Our partnerships with Boeing and other outstanding companies and individuals were instrumental in bringing our vision to life.”
“However, there are times when aligning visions becomes impossible. Building an airline is a collaborative effort, and I’m incredibly grateful to the dedicated team that achieved what many thought unachievable.”
Legacy of Success: New Pacific Airways and Ravn Alaska
During his tenure, McKinney’s leadership yielded significant accomplishments:
Ravn Alaska’s Resurrection
McKinney spearheaded Ravn Alaska’s successful comeback following its 2020 bankruptcy. He re-established the airline, enabling it to resume operations and serve Alaskan communities once again.
New Pacific Airways Takes Flight
Under McKinney’s guidance, New Pacific Airways launched, connecting Anchorage to key destinations in Asia and the Lower 48 states. The initiative included acquiring Boeing aircraft to bolster connectivity.
Economic Boon for Alaska
McKinney’s leadership at New Pacific Airways led to the creation of hundreds of local jobs and significant tax revenue for Alaska.
The airline’s operations are projected to further strengthen the state’s economy by extending the tourism season and attracting year-round visitors.
Strategic Hub Model
Inspired by successful stopover airlines, McKinney positioned Anchorage as a strategic hub for trans-Pacific flights.
This model not only provides a convenient stopover for travelers between Asia and the US but also promotes Alaskan tourism by encouraging layovers.
