Information has emerged of multiple injured due to severe turbulence onboard United Airlines flight UA1196 Cancun-Chicago which diverted to Memphis.

United Airlines UA1196 – Cancun-Chicago: Memphis Diversion…

United Airlines flight UA1196, which suffered the turbulence event over Memphis, is a routine scheduled flight between Cancun and Chicago.
Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident was N66814.
As per data from Planespotters.net, N66814 is a 10.6 year old Boeing 737-900ER that was delivered to the airline in February 2014.
Of the 737-900ER, United Airlines has 136 of them in their fleet.
Moreover, of that 136, all but 13 are in active service, with an average fleet age of 11.7 years.
As well as the 737-900ER, the airline has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:
- 81 Airbus A319s.
- 84 Airbus A320s.
- 15 Airbus A321s.
- 40 Boeing 737-700s.
- 141 Boeing 737-800s.
- 12 Boeing 737-900s.
- 101 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.

- 96 Boeing 777s.
- 71 Boeing 787s.
United Airlines flight UA1196, which suffered the turbulence event in Memphis, diverted Cancun at 1215 local time yesterday bound for Chicago.
It was near the diversion field where the incident took place, prompting a rapid descent and emergency landing.
The aircraft landed safely without further incident at 1445 local time.

In a statement, United Airlines said the following on the severe turbulence onboard UA1196 Cancun-Chicago in Memphis:
“Flight UA1196 encountered a brief period of severe turbulence Wednesday afternoon”.
“We’re grateful to our crew for their efforts to ensure the safety of our employees and customers,”
In total, seven people were injured, with six declining treatment, and one being sent to hospital, the airline said.
Data from RadarBox highlights that the aircraft repositioned to Chicago, and at the time of publication, the aircraft is enroute to LaGuardia.
