Mangaluru International Airport has seen a period of stellar progress since the start of 2024.

Through innovative solutions and strategic improvements, the airport has revolutionized air travel in the region, setting new standards for operational excellence and passenger experience.

Passenger Traffic Soars in 2024

Passenger traffic soared to unprecedented heights, with October 2024 setting a remarkable record. The airport welcomed 202,892 travelers – 138,902 on domestic routes and 63,990 on international flights.

This milestone showcases the airport’s growing role as a vital transportation hub connecting South India to domestic and international destinations.

The substantial increase in passenger numbers reflects growing confidence in air travel and the region’s economic vitality.

Runway Enhancement Project

Excellence in infrastructure earned the airport the prestigious Build India Infra Award 2024. The recognition came for an innovative runway enhancement project, where teams completed a 2,450-meter runway re-coating in just 75 working days.

This unique flexible overlay of asphalt on concrete has significantly boosted operational safety and efficiency. The project’s success demonstrates the airport’s commitment to maintaining world-class infrastructure while minimizing disruption to daily operations.

Sustainability

Environmental responsibility stands at the forefront of the airport’s mission. Through energy efficient lighting and advanced waste management systems, the facility continues to champion sustainable aviation practices.

The airport has implemented comprehensive recycling programs and invested in renewable energy solutions, setting an example for sustainable airport operations across India.

Air Connectivity

Air connectivity has increased significantly throughout 2024. Low cost carrier Air India Express began new Boeing 737-8 services linking Chennai and Mangaluru via Bengaluru, enhancing regional connectivity.

IndiGo also boosted its network by increasing direct flights to Chennai, providing passengers with more flexible travel options and improved flight scheduling.

The airport’s achievements gained national recognition at Wings India 2024, Asia’s largest civil aviation exhibition. Former Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia presented MIA with the best airport award in the “under 5 million passenger category.”

This honor complemented the airport’s impressive 14.17% growth, handling 19,27,466 passengers in 2023. The award acknowledges the airport’s commitment to exceptional service delivery and operational efficiency.

Safety excellence earned MIA the Platinum Award at the Apex India Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2023.

This recognition aligns with the airport’s Vision 2025 goal of becoming India’s safest table top airport. It was supported by zero workplace incidents and comprehensive staff training programs. The airport has invested heavily in advanced safety equipment and regular emergency response drills to maintain its exemplary safety record.

Passenger Facilities

Passenger comfort has seen major improvements through strategic developments to terminal facilities. The airport increased its food, beverage, and retail offerings, introducing local and international brands to cater to diverse passenger preferences.

The launch of the innovative MIA super app (Adani One) has raised the passenger experience by providing a one-stop solution for all airport related services. This digital tool has improved customer service, making travel smoother and more convenient for passengers.

Looking Forward

Looking toward 2025, Mangaluru International Airport continues its commitment to exceptional service, safety standards, and sustainable operations.

The airport’s management team has laid out ambitious plans for further expansion and technological upgrades, ensuring the facility remains at the forefront of aviation excellence.

These ongoing efforts and future initiatives cement its position as a leading regional aviation hub and contribute significantly to the economic development of the Mangaluru region.
