Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has reported impressive growth in passenger numbers during the peak summer season of 2024.

The Group, which operates Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands Airports, continues to demonstrate strong performance across its aviation portfolio.

Record-Breaking Passenger Numbers

In July 2024, MAG welcomed a staggering 6.6 million travelers through its airports, marking a 5.1% increase compared to the same month in 2023.

This surge in passenger traffic reflects the growing demand for air travel and the Group’s ability to meet this demand effectively.

Looking at the bigger picture, MAG’s rolling 12-month traffic figures reveal an even more impressive story.

The Group served 62.9 million passengers in the year leading up to July 2024, showcasing its significant role in the UK’s aviation sector.

Manchester Airport: Northern Powerhouse

Manchester Airport, the Group’s flagship facility, has emerged as a true northern powerhouse in the aviation industry. In July 2024, it served 3.2 million passengers, representing a robust 6.8% increase from July 2023.

With 29.6 million travelers passing through its terminals in the year to July 2024, Manchester Airport has surpassed its previous record of 29.4 million set in September 2019.

This growth strengthens Manchester Airport’s vital role as a gateway to the North of England and its increasing importance in the UK’s aviation landscape.

The airport’s success can be attributed to its strategic location, diverse range of destinations, and ongoing investments in infrastructure and customer experience.

London Stansted and East Midlands: Breaking Records

London Stansted Airport also celebrated a significant achievement, experiencing its busiest July on record.

The airport welcomed 2.9 million passengers, marking a 3.4% increase compared to July 2023. This growth highlights Stansted’s popularity among travelers and its crucial role in serving the London and East of England regions.

East Midlands Airport, while smaller in scale, demonstrated impressive growth as well. It welcomed over 520,000 passengers in July 2024, a 5.2% increase from the previous year.

This growth signifies the airport’s importance in connecting the Midlands region to popular holiday destinations and business hubs.

Operational Performance

A key measure of success for any airport is in providing a smooth and efficient travel experience. The Group’s operational performance remains strong across all its airports.

East Midlands Airport led the way with 100% of passengers passing through security in 15 minutes or less. London Stansted and Manchester Airport also performed exceptionally well, with 99% and 97% of passengers, respectively, clearing security within the same timeframe.

Moreover, MAG has demonstrated its commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. In the Civil Aviation Authority’s annual Airport Accessibility Report, all MAG airports received positive ratings.

London Stansted and East Midlands achieved the highest possible ‘very good’ rating, while Manchester Airport secured a ‘good’ rating.

These accolades reflect MAG’s significant investments in infrastructure and staff training to ensure that passengers with additional travel needs can use its airports confidently and easily.

As MAG continues to break records and improve its services, it solidifies its position as a key player in the UK’s aviation industry.
