Manchester Airport will bolster its position as a leading international hub with the introduction of direct flights to Moldova.
This new route, operated by FLYONE, marks a significant waypoint for the UK midlands airport. It will connect the North’s thriving Moldovan community to their homeland and opening up further opportunities for tourism and trade.
FLYONE will start the twice-weekly service to Chisinau, Moldova’s capital city on 17 December 2024. It offers a convenient and efficient travel option for those seeking to visit friends and family or explore the country’s rich cultural heritage.
New Moldova Connection Welcomed
Moldova, often referred to as one of Europe’s hidden gems, boasts stunning landscapes, a thriving wine industry, and a fascinating blend of Eastern and Western influences.
The launch of the direct flights has been met with enthusiasm from both the Moldovan diaspora in the North of England and the Moldovan government.
His Excellency Ruslan Bolbocean, the Moldovan ambassador to the UK, expressed his gratitude to Manchester Airport for establishing this vital connection. He emphasized the route’s importance in strengthening ties between the two countries and fostering economic cooperation.
For the Moldovan community in the UK, the new flights provide a much-needed link to their homeland. Many have been unable to visit their families as frequently as they would like due to the lack of direct transportation options.
The direct flights offer a more convenient and affordable way to travel, allowing them to reconnect with loved ones and maintain their cultural ties.
Opening Tourism and Trade Opportunities
Beyond its personal significance for the Moldovan diaspora, the new route also presents exciting opportunities for tourism and trade.
Moldova’s untapped potential as a tourist destination is gradually being recognized, with visitors drawn to its picturesque landscapes, historic sites, and vibrant culture.
The direct flights from Manchester Airport will make it easier for British travelers to discover the country’s hidden gems, boosting tourism and contributing to the local economy. In addition to tourism, the new route also has the potential to stimulate trade between the UK and Moldova.
The Moldovan government has been actively working to attract foreign investment and promote exports. The upcoming direct flights provide a valuable platform for businesses in both countries to explore opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
“The launch of this route is our response to numerous requests,” said Mircea Maleca – General Director, FLYONE. “We analyse travellers’ preferences and try to come up with solutions so that the diaspora, businesspeople, and those who want to visit somewhere new can easily fly to these cities.”
Stephen Turner – Chief Commercial Officer, Manchester Airport offered comment on behalf of the airport. “We are proud to connect the North to the world through our route network of more than 200 destinations, more than any UK airport outside London. A key part of that is connecting people to friends and family in other countries.”
By offering a new gateway to Eastern Europe, the airport has not only strengthened its position as a leading international hub but has also provided a valuable service to the Moldovan community and opened up exciting new possibilities for tourism and trade.
