Malaysia Airlines Expands Network with New Kolkata Route

Operated in partnership with Indian carrier IndiGo, Malaysia Airlines has restored its service from Kuala Lumpur to Kolkata.

Malaysia Airlines has successfully inaugurated its latest route to Kolkata (CCU), further strengthening its network of destinations in South Asia.

The new service is operated in partnership with Indian carrier IndiGo. This expands the airline’s connection to 16 Indian destinations, offering enhanced travel opportunities for passengers.

The inaugural flight MH184 departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 9:45pm local time on 3 December 2024.

Kuala Lumpur-Kolkata: Strong Market Interest


It enjoyed strong market interest, evidenced by the impressive 93% passenger load. Travelers were welcomed with Malaysia Airlines-themed travel pouches and invited to commemorate the moment at a specially designed photo booth. The return flight MH185 followed shortly after, departing at 12:10am and arriving at 6:40am with a 91% load factor.

Pre-departure celebrations at Gate C2 showcased a vibrant blend of Indian culture and Malaysian hospitality.

Prominent Malaysia Aviation Group representatives were present to mark the occasion. Notable attendees included Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi (CEO of Airlines) and Dersenish Aresandiran (Chief Commercial Officer). Passengers enjoyed traditional chai and live Indian music, creating a memorable experience.

CEO Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi spoke of the importance of the restored service. “We are thrilled to re-establish direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kolkata,” he said.

“It bridges connections and creating opportunities for both leisure and business travelers. This route underscores our commitment to providing luxurious, culturally immersive travel experiences and reinforces Malaysia Airlines’ position as a premier gateway to Malaysia and beyond.”

As part of its continued commitment to passenger experience, the airline has partnered with the renowned Oberoi Group to provide premium in-flight catering for flights departing from Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.
