Malaysia Airlines announces a significant expansion of services to accommodate the surge in travel demand during December’s festive season and Chinese New Year celebrations.

From December 19 through January 1, 2025, travelers will benefit from 112 additional red-eye flights connecting Kuala Lumpur (KUL) with various destinations across East Malaysia. This is planned to support enhanced connectivity during this peak travel period.

Planned Service Expansion

The comprehensive service expansion includes 66 new flights serving Sabah’s major cities, including Kota Kinabalu (BKI), Sandakan (SDK), and Tawau (TWU). Complementing this, another 46 flights will connect to Sarawak’s key destinations of Kuching (KCH) and Miri (MYY).

This strategic increase brings the total flight count between Kuala Lumpur and East Malaysia to an impressive 596 flights during the festive period, offering unprecedented travel flexibility.

In a move to make travel more accessible during Chinese New Year, the airline has introduced competitive fixed fares starting at RM 349 one-way to both Sabah and Sarawak.

These special rates are exclusively available through Malaysia Airlines’ official website and mobile app. This will make it easier for families to reunite during this significant cultural celebration.
