magniX, a pioneering electric aviation technology company, has reached a significant breakthrough in electric aircraft propulsion, with recent testing at the NASA Ohio facility..

The company successfully completed testing of its magni650 electric propulsion unit (EPU). The testing was carried out at NASA’s Electric Aircraft Testbed (NEAT) in Sandusky, Ohio. It becomes a critical step forwards in the move towards sustainable commercial aviation.

During this testing, the magni650 demonstrated exceptional performance by operating at a 30,000-foot altitude simulation while continuously generating 700 kilowatts of power.

This achievement represents a pivotal moment in the company’s journey toward electric aircraft certification. It highlights the potential for transformative aerospace technologies.

The test results position magniX at the forefront of NASA’s Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstration (EPFD) project. The next phase involves a groundbreaking conversion of a De Havilland Dash 7 test aircraft.

The conversion will involved the replacement of one of its turbine engines with the magni650 electric powertrain. magniX have scheduled test flights for 2026, with plans to ultimately substitute a second turbine engine.

Projected Performance and Environmental Impact

magniX’s innovative configuration will deliver substantial environmental benefits. Notably, it potentially reduces fuel consumption by up to 40% per flight. By systematically collecting and analyzing performance data, magniX and NASA will accelerate the pathway to commercial electric aircraft entry-into-service by the decade’s end.

With an unprecedented track record of powering first flights across five different aircraft, magniX continues to lead electric aviation advancement.

The recent launch of Samson batteries, featuring exceptional energy density and cycle-life, completes the company’s comprehensive electric powertrain solution.

Ben Loxton, magniX’s Vice President of Technical Programs, spoke of the significance of the NEAT test campaign. “Our collaborative work with NASA is enabling the electrification of regional commercial aviation.”

“We’re making substantial progress toward pure electric solutions for short routes and hybrid configurations for longer journeys, ultimately supporting aerospace decarbonization.”

This milestone underscores magniX’s commitment to revolutionizing aviation through sustainable, cutting-edge electric propulsion technologies.
