Lufthansa has unveiled a powerful tribute to its help alliance humanitarian efforts by launching a special Airbus A321neo that tells a story of hope, solidarity, and global community.

The custom Airbus A321neo aircraft, bearing the registration D-AIEP, serves as a flying testament to help alliance’s 25-year journey. Over a quarter of a century, it has transformed lives and created opportunities for disadvantaged children and young people around the world.

The “Helping Hands” Aircraft

The most striking feature of this unique aircraft is its distinctive “Helping Hands” livery. This is adorned with 297 colorful handprints symbolically donated by supporters. Each handprint represents more than just a visual element. It embodies a personal commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Vivian Spohr, the patroness of help alliance, eloquently captures the spirit behind this innovative project. “Every single handprint on this plane stands as a powerful symbol of solidarity in action.

It represents our collective belief that together, we can create meaningful change. We provide hope to those who might otherwise have limited opportunities.” Her words reflect the organization’s core mission of empowerment and transformation.

The fundraising campaign behind the aircraft allows individuals to become direct participants in help alliance’s mission. With almost two-thirds of the handprints already allocated, the project continues to invite supporters to leave their mark – quite literally – on this flying symbol of hope. It’s an innovative approach that transforms corporate social responsibility into a deeply personal and engaging experience.

Previous Edelweiss Aircraft

This is not the first such initiative by the Lufthansa Group. A similar “Helping Hands” aircraft has been in service with Edelweiss, the Swiss airline, since 2022. This showcases the group’s commitment to social impact across its various brands.

The story of help alliance is a testament to the power of collective action. Founded in 1999 by committed Lufthansa employees, the organization began as a consolidation of individual efforts to make a difference. Over the past 25 years, it has grown from a small initiative to a central pillar of the Lufthansa Group’s social commitment, expanding its reach and impact exponentially.

The help alliance

Today, help alliance operates in an impressive network of 29 countries, managing over 60 active projects. The organization’s approach is strategic and impactful, focusing on three critical areas: education, training, and work.

By partnering with local organizations and leveraging the unique strengths of the Lufthansa Group, help alliance creates sustainable pathways for children, youth, and young adults to build better futures.

The special aircraft serves multiple purposes beyond its immediate visual impact. It raises awareness about help alliance’s work, invites public engagement, and serves as a moving billboard of hope that travels across Lufthansa’s continental route network. Each flight becomes an opportunity to tell a story of compassion and potential.

As help alliance marks its 25th anniversary, the “Helping Hands” aircraft symbolizes more than just a milestone. It represents a quarter-century of unwavering commitment to social change, a tribute to the thousands of supporters who have contributed to its mission, and a beacon of hope for countless young lives transformed through education and opportunity.

By transforming an aircraft into a canvas of hope, Lufthansa does more than celebrate an anniversary – it invites the world to join a global mission of support, empowerment, and positive change.
