The Lufthansa Group has unveiled ambitious recruitment plans for 2025, aiming to welcome 10,000 new employees across its diverse operations.
The aviation giant’s comprehensive hiring strategy targets multiple professional sectors. Over 2,000 flight attendants, 1,400 ground operations staff, and 1,300 technical specialists forming the core of their recruitment drive.
The expansion also includes positions for 1,200 administrative professionals and 800 pilots, with Germany set to host more than half of these new positions.
Lufthansa Technik and Subsidiary Airlines
Division-specific hiring reveals Lufthansa Technik leading the charge with plans to integrate 2,000 new team members. Subsidiary airlines are also expanding their workforce, with both Austrian Airlines and Eurowings each planning to add 700 employees to their ranks.
Lufthansa Airlines, while maintaining its focus on the Turnaround efficiency program, plans to recruit approximately 1,200 new staff members in 2025, primarily strengthening its operational capabilities.
The Group’s impressive recruitment track record speaks volumes, having successfully integrated more than 30,000 new professionals over the past three years.
Michael Niggemann, Executive Board Member responsible for HR & Legal Affairs at Deutsche Lufthansa AG, emphasizes the company’s enduring appeal.
“The Lufthansa Group is and remains an attractive employer with many different job profiles and career options. Last year alone, we received 350,000 applications across the Group and recruited over 13,000 employees. We look forward to welcoming every new colleague.”
Supporting Fleet Modernization
This substantial recruitment initiative directly supports Lufthansa’s ambitious fleet modernization program.
Currently operating approximately 740 commercial aircraft, the Group is executing a long-term fleet strategy that prioritizes premium quality, cost efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
The airline has committed to approximately 250 new, fuel-efficient aircraft, including 100 cutting-edge long-haul planes designed to meet modern aviation demands.
In a significant move toward sustainability and operational efficiency, these modern twin-engine jets will gradually replace the Group’s four-engine aircraft fleet. This includes the Boeing 747-400, Airbus A340-600, and Airbus A340-300.
This transition represents a major step forward in reducing the airline’s environmental footprint while maintaining its commitment to service excellence.
Recent developments include an expanded partnership with Airbus, with the Group increasing its firm orders for A350-1000 aircraft from ten to fifteen units.
This commitment, combined with orders for 60 A350-900s, positions the Lufthansa Group as one of the world’s largest A350 customers. It further highlights the Group’s dedication to fleet modernization and sustainable aviation practices.
