The Lufthansa Group has launched a new service enhancing the customer experience: Apple AirTag integration into baggage tracing. This innovative feature empowers passengers to take control of their baggage tracking, offering greater transparency and peace of mind throughout their journey.

The tracing feature will be applicable across Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings.

Apple AirTag: A New Customer Benefit

Now, passengers can seamlessly share the location of their AirTag or Find My network accessory. This is accomplished via the airlines’ existing digital baggage tracing channels.

This secure and private sharing allows the Lufthansa Group airlines to integrate this real-time information into their systems. It provides enhanced digital support for baggage tracking.

This initiative underscores the Lufthansa Group’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve the travel experience. Dieter Vranckx, Member of the Executive Board and Chief Commercial Officer, emphasizes the role of the “Digital Hangar”.

This is a team of approximately 1,000 experts, in developing new digital services. He highlights the AirTag integration as a prime example of their ongoing efforts to innovate. The new feature enhances the customer journey across all group airlines.

The integration reflects a broader trend in the airline industry. Answering customer demand, it empowers passengers with more control and information regarding their baggage.

Oliver Schmitt, Head of the Lufthansa Group Digital Hangar offers comment on the new system. He notes the significant improvements recently made in baggage tracing through the app and website. Schmitt explains that passengers can now quickly and easily find solutions in case of irregularities.

The addition of customer AirTag data provides further opportunities for the airlines to act more efficiently and promptly, ultimately leading to a smoother and less stressful travel experience.
