Lufthansa Cargo Expands Fleet with 18th B777F Freighter

Lufthansa Cargo has welcomed its 18th Boeing B777F freighter to its fleet, marking a further step in its growth strategy.

Lufthansa Cargo, a leading player in the air freight industry, has welcomed its 18th Boeing B777F freighter to its fleet. The new addition arrived at Frankfurt Airport on August 17, 2024, marking a further step in the carrier’s growth strategy.

The state-of-the-art long-haul freighter was flown directly from Boeing’s factory in Everett, USA, to Lufthansa Cargo’s primary hub in Frankfurt.

This latest acquisition expanding its cargo capacity and addresses the steady return growth in the air cargo sector.

Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo, expressed enthusiasm about the new arrival. “This additional freighter enhances our ability to serve our customers and adapt to market changes swiftly. The B777F remains the most efficient and modern freighter in its class, making it a crucial investment in our long-haul fleet and our sustainability efforts.”

In keeping with Lufthansa Cargo’s tradition, the new freighter has been christened “¡Hola Argentina!” as part of the company’s “Say hello around the world” naming convention.

Fleet Composition and Network Expansion


Lufthansa Cargo’s current fleet includes:

  • Twelve company-owned B777F aircraft for long-haul routes
  • Six B777 freighters operated by AeroLogic, a joint venture with DHL
  • Four A321 freighters for short and medium-haul routes

The A321 freighters will now operate from both Frankfurt and Munich hubs, further expanding the airline’s network reach.

Additionally, Lufthansa Cargo utilizes belly capacities of passenger flights operated by Lufthansa, Discover, Brussels Airlines, Austrian Airlines, and SunExpress.

This comprehensive fleet strategy allows Lufthansa Cargo to offer its customers access to over 350 destinations worldwide through approximately 7,000 weekly flights.
