On April 24, 2025, Lufthansa Cargo celebrated the arrival of its newest freighter, D-ALFL, at a vibrant ceremony in Buenos Aires.

Named “¡Hola Argentina!” under the airline’s “Say hello around the world” theme, the aircraft honours Argentina’s vital role in global trade.

Since 2013, Lufthansa Cargo has named its aircraft to reflect key markets in its network, and this addition recognises the carrier’s continued presence in Argentina. The cargo carrier has linked South America’s second-largest nation with its Frankfurt hub since 1970, fostering decades of trade.

Lufthansa Cargo in Argentina

Argentina plays a pivotal role in South America’s trade network. This is driven by strong exports like agricultural goods, energy, and raw materials. Despite global economic shifts, the country remains a cornerstone of regional commerce.

Alongside markets like Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay, Argentina fuels intercontinental trade with its rich resources. Meanwhile, demand for high-value imports, such as machinery, electronics, and automobiles, is rising across the region.

Lufthansa Cargo, a leader in airfreight, meets this need with reliable, specialized transport from Europe. By strengthening its South American presence, the airline builds lasting partnerships in a market brimming with potential.

This summer, Lufthansa Cargo boosted its South American flight schedule, adding one weekly flight to Buenos Aires and Curitiba compared to the previous winter.

Cargo customers now enjoy four weekly freighter flights to the region, serving destinations like Viracopos, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, and Curitiba.

Apart from dedicated freighters, Lufthansa Cargo offers up to 20 weekly belly cargo rotations from Frankfurt and three from Munich. This leverages the Lufthansa Group’s passenger fleet for extra capacity. This dense network ensures seamless connections for businesses.

A Key Cargo Growth Market

“South America is a key growth market for us,” said Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo, at the Buenos Aires event.

“Our strong partnerships, especially in the perishables sector, have thrived for over 30 years. Naming our latest freighter ‘¡Hola Argentina!’ reflects our dedication to this market and our mission to enable global business.”

Bhat’s words highlight the airline’s focus on fostering trade and supporting customers in Argentina.

Cargo Fleet Operations

Lufthansa Cargo’s modern fleet enhances its ability to serve global markets. Since 2021, its long-haul operations rely entirely on the fuel-efficient Boeing 777F. It fields 12 freighters owned directly and six operated by AeroLogic, a joint venture with DHL.

For short- and medium-haul routes, the airline deploys four Airbus A321F freighters, ensuring swift transport across Europe and the Middle East. By combining these freighters with the belly cargo capacity of Lufthansa Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and SunExpress, Lufthansa Cargo offers customers unmatched access to major economic hubs, particularly in Europe.

Conclusion

The christening of “¡Hola Argentina!” sees the induction of a new freighter aircraft, and signals Lufthansa Cargo’s ongoing investment in South America.

By expanding flights, modernizing its fleet, and deepening partnerships, the airline continues to drive global trade.

For businesses in Argentina and beyond, Lufthansa Cargo remains a trusted partner, connecting markets and enabling commerce with precision and care.
