Lilium Announces Flights to South of France in 2026

Lilium has firmed plans to establish an eVTOL aircraft network which will connect popular destinations in the South of France region in 2026.

Lilium, a developer of electric vertical take-off and landing jets (eVTOL), has joined forces with UrbanV (an Italian vertiport network operator) and Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur (managing Nice Côte d’Azur airport) to bring a revolutionary transportation network to the region.

Launching in 2026, the network will connect popular destinations like Monaco, Nice, Cannes, Golfe de Saint-Tropez, Aix-en-Provence, and Marseille with speedy, eco-friendly eVTOL flights.

The French Riviera, a region synonymous with glamour, luxury, and idyllic Mediterranean escapes, is about to take a leap forward in sustainable transportation.

Revolutionizing Regional Travel

Scheduled for launch in 2026, this network will transform how travelers experience the French Riviera.

Imagine whisking between iconic destinations like Monaco, Nice, Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Aix-en-Provence, and Marseille in a fraction of the time currently required by car.

Lilium’s eVTOL jets, with their quiet operation and zero emissions, will provide a fast, comfortable, and eco-friendly travel option.

This project represents a first-of-its-kind partnership in the region. Lilium, UrbanV, and Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur are joining forces to develop a comprehensive eVTOL network.

The initial phase will focus on key locations, including Nice Côte d’Azur airport, the second-largest airport in France, along with Cannes Mandelieu and Golfe de Saint-Tropez airports.

Discussions are underway to expand the network further, with potential vertiport locations in Sophia Antipolis, Aix-en-Provence, and Marseille expected to be finalized by the end of 2024.

Vertiport Operations

Environmental consciousness is a core value for the Côte d’Azur region. Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, an ambitious goal that aligns perfectly with the capabilities of Lilium Jets.

These eVTOL aircraft boast zero operating emissions and near-silent operation, significantly reducing noise pollution compared to traditional helicopters.

UrbanV’s vertiports will further contribute to this eco-friendly approach by providing sustainable ground infrastructure specifically designed for eVTOLs.

These vertiports will ensure safe, efficient, and seamless operations, while also prioritizing passenger comfort with innovative technologies and streamlined processes.

Benefits for Travelers and the Region

The introduction of this eVTOL network offers a multitude of benefits for both travelers and the region itself.

Passengers can expect a faster and more convenient way to explore the South of France. Furthermore, the network is expected to create a positive economic impact.

Streamlined travel times will encourage increased business travel and tourism within the region.

Additionally, the development of vertiports and the operation of eVTOL flights will create new job opportunities. This will contribute to the economic dynamism of the South of France.
