A LATAM Brasil Airbus A319-100 collided with a GOL Boeing 737 MAX 8 in a ground handling incident at São Paulo Congonhas Airport (CGH), Brazil on 29 July 2024.
The LATAM Airbus A319-100 was under tow and connected by a tow bar to the tug vehicle.

According to reports, the tug vehicle experienced a mechanical failure during the tow procedure.
This caused the driver to lose directional control of the towed aircraft, resulting in it colliding with a parked GOL Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
The wing of the LATAM A319 under tow struck the tail cone assembly of the stationary GOL 737 MAX. The impact resulted in damage to the latter aircraft’s APU door assembly.
The LATAM aircraft sustained damage to its wing as a result of the ground handing incident. No injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.
LATAM Statement
The carrier LATAM issued a confirming statement following the ground incident at the Brazil airport.
“LATAM has already accommodated on other flights all passengers impacted on Monday (29/7) by the cancellations of their original flights in Congonhas. This followed the incident on the ground with another company’s aircraft.”
“The LATAM aircraft involved in the incident remains under maintenance and the company is investigating what happened to continue adopting all technical and operational measures for a safe trip for everyone.”
Aircraft Details
The LATAM aircraft under tow was an Airbus A319-100, registered PT-TMT. This is a 19.7 year old narrowbody aircraft presently being operated by LATAM Airlines Brazil.
It has been in service with the carrier since May 2022. It was previously operated by the Chilean division of the South American airline group.
The parked GOL aircraft which it collided with was a Boeing 737 MAX 8, registered PR-XMU. This is a 2.8 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier GOL.
It has been in service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in October 2021.
An investigation has now been opened into the incident at São Paulo Congonhas Airport , which will examine the cause of the event.
