The aircraft was parked at the gate and passengers had been disembarked from the aircraft. Shortly after the disembarkation an air bridge attached to the aircraft collapsed, causing damage to the aircraft’s L1 exit door.
The L1 door was detached from the aircraft’s fuselage as a result of the bridge collapse.
At the time of the incident, all 284 passengers had disembarked the aircraft and the only persons on board with the captain and his operating crew.
The incident occurred not long after the flight’s arrival at around 1:30 AM local time. The aircraft had been scheduled to carry out a return flight to Kuwait International Airport (KWI) at 2:45 AM local time.
Due to the unserviceability, Kuwait Airways mustered a replacement aircraft to conduct the onwards scheduled service.
Speaking to Bangladesh news source BD News, Kamrul Islam, executive director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport gave comment on the occurrence.
“The door detached due to a misalignment with the boarding bridge, not because it was broken,” he explained.
“Nonetheless, this is a serious incident, and a technical committee has been established to investigate further.”
The aircraft involved in the incident at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport was a Boeing 777-300ER, registered 9K-AOJ. This is a 7.5 year old wide-body aircraft belonging to the carrier Kuwait Airways. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in May 2017.
The Civil Aviation Authority will now open an investigation into the ground incident.
