Boeing [NYSE:BA] and Korean Air have sealed a historic deal for up to 50 widebody aircraft. This includes 20 Boeing 777-9s, 20 Boeing 787-10s, and options for 10 more 787 Dreamliners.
The landmark agreement represents the biggest order Korean Air has ever placed with US plane manufacturer Boeing.
The agreement will support the airline as it merges with Asiana Airlines. Announced earlier as a commitment at the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow, this deal will soon appear on Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ Orders and Deliveries webpage.
Building on a Five Decade Partnership
For more than five decades, Korean Air and Boeing have enjoyed a strong partnership built on trust and shared success. Walter Cho, chairman and CEO of Korean Air and Hanjin Group, spoke about the milestone.
“This landmark order deepens our long-standing bond with Boeing,” he said. “We’re excited to move forward with Boeing as our reliable partner in innovation and quality.”
Korean Air is growing fast. After merging with Asiana Airlines in 2023, it’s becoming one of the world’s top airlines by capacity. The company recently revealed a fresh brand identity and a new look for its planes, starting with a widebody 787-10.

This is part of its plan to unify operations under one name. To keep expanding its global reach, Korean Air is updating its fleet with modern, fuel-saving widebody jets.
Dan Schull, Boeing’s vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Northeast Asia, praised the deal. “This record-breaking order reflects our 50-plus-year partnership with Korean Air,” he noted.
“It also highlights the power of Boeing’s leading widebody aircraft. The 777X and 787 Dreamliner offer great fuel efficiency and long-range capabilities. Together, they’ll help Korean Air grow and thrive for years to come.”

Looking Ahead: Meeting Rising Demand
The new widebody aircraft will boost Korean Air’s ability to connect passengers across its international network.
The 777-9, part of the 777X family, is known for its size and efficiency. Meanwhile, the 787-10, the largest Dreamliner model, balances range and capacity perfectly.
With these aircraft, Korean Air can meet rising air travel demand while keeping costs low. This order marks a key step in the airline’s journey to strengthen its place in the aviation world.
With the historic order, Boeing and Korean Air look set to continue their successful five decade collaboration.
