A KLM Cityhopper Embraer E195-E2 operating a service from Florence, Italy to Amsterdam declared an emergency before diverting to Frankfurt on 2 September 2024.
KLM flight KL1656, an Embraer E195-E2 en route from Florence Airport (FLR) to Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) declared an emergency with transponder code 7700.

The flight was in transit over German airspace when the operating crew declared an emergency. Flight crew had initiated a descent and diversion into nearby Frankfurt am Main International airport (FRA). They squawked transponder code 7700 during the latter part of the descent and approach to the diversion airport.
The nature of the emergency prompting the off-track diversion is not yet known.

Flight data shows that flight KL1656, operated by the subsidiary KLM Cityhopper, made a delayed departure out of Florence Airport on 2 September. The flight departed at 1904 local time, 1 hour and 24 minutes later than scheduled..
The aircraft then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL400 (40,000 feet) for the northerly service to Amsterdam.
Whilst in transit through the German airspace in cruising flight, flight crew initiated a diversion and descent from cruising altitude. Transponder code 7700 was then squawked at 1822 UTC as the aircraft descended through FL350 on track for Frankfurt.
The aircraft conducting the KL1656 service to Amsterdam was an Embraer E195-E2, registered PH-NXL. This is a 2.3-year-old regional aircraft belonging to the subsidiary carrier KLM Cityhopper. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in June 2022.
