Kenya Airways Cargo Flight Sharjah-Nairobi Suffers Damage

Earlier today, a Kenya Airways Cargo flight between Sharjah and Nairobi suffered tyre damage, which disabled the aircraft on arrival.

Information has been released pertinent to this incident, which we will get into in this article.

Kenya Airways Cargo Flight KQ2345 – Sharjah to Nairobi…


Earlier today, a Kenya Airways Cargo flight between Sharjah and Nairobi suffered tyre damage, which disabled the aircraft on arrival.

Kenya Airways Cargo flight KQ2345 is a routine scheduled flight between Sharjah and Nairobi.

The aircraft involved in the incident is 5Y-KCA.

As per data from Planespotters.net, 5Y-KCA is a 22.3 year old Boeing 737-800 that started out life with Virgin Blue in March 2002.

By May 2010, the aircraft was returned to lessor GECAS and immediately was sent to Orenair of Russia.

Furthermore, by April 2016, the aircraft was then sent to Rossiya, before being transferred over to Regent Airways in October 2017.

February 2022 saw the aircraft in the control of Merx Aviation, who converted the aircraft into a freighter.

It was then delivered to Kenya Airways Cargo in January of this year.

Of the 737-800F variant, the airline has two of them, being 5Y-KCA and 5Y-KCB, which have an average fleet age of 22-23 years.

KQ2345 departed Sharjah at 0859 local time this morning and tracked south-west to Nairobi.

As per reporting from The Aviation Herald, it is understood the crew were notified to debris at Sharjah.

Furthermore, from there, the crew decided to continue on to Nairobi.

The image (seen above) from RadarBox shows that KQ2345 performed an overflight of the airport before landing.

This was to assess the scale of the damage, which at the time showed only one of six wheels damaged.

Kenya Airways Cargo KQ2345 from Sharjah landed safely into Nairobi at 1230 local time this afternoon.

It is understood that a number of tyres deflated during the landing.

Furthermore, this resulted in the aircraft having to be towed off the runway and taken to the apron.

Aircraft Grounded for Repairs…

It is understood that the aircraft will be grounded in Nairobi whilst the damage is assessed.

For the Sharjah-originated flight, it will be interesting to see when the aircraft will be back in service on this route.

No further information has been confirmed about the incident at hand.

But for now, all eyes will be on the aircraft’s return to service, and subsequent operational assessment.
