JetBlue A320-200 Returns to Boston with Gear Indication Problem

A JetBlue A320-200 departing for Chicago made a precautionary return to Boston Logan after reporting a landing gear indication issue on 13 October.

A JetBlue Airbus A320-200 departing for Chicago, IL made a precautionary return to Boston, MA after experiencing a landing gear indication problem on 13 October 2024.

JetBlue flight B6811, operated by an Airbus A320-200, had conducted a departure from runway 09 Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

During the initial climb after takeoff, flight crew reported a landing gear indication problem. They requested the termination of the climb below 10,000 feet, indicating the issue may prevent the aircraft from operating at cruising speed.

After running through troubleshooting checks, flight crew elected to make a precautionary return to Boston Logan Airport. The flight subsequently landed without incident just under thirty minutes after its initial departure.

The aircraft was able to depart and complete the scheduled service, just under two hours after the precautionary landing.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a brief report following the incident. “JetBlue Flight 811 returned safely to Boston Logan International Airport around 6:05 p.m. local time on Sunday, Oct. 13, after the crew reported a possible gear issue. The Airbus A320 was headed to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The FAA will investigate.”

Flight data shows that the flight B6811 had made its initial departure out of Boston Logan at 1742 local time on 13 October.

The flight crew then terminated the climb procedure at 4000 feet, and subsequently conducted a direct return from that altitude.

The aircraft conducting the B6811 service to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) was an Airbus A320-200, registered N506JB. This is a 24.5 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier JetBlue. It has been an operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in June 2000.

The aircraft operates under the airline name ‘Wild Blue Yonder’.
