UPDATE #1 @ 2359 UK time – Jet2 flight LS998, which declared an emergency, is currently cruising at FL380 and is still tracking northbound at this time.
UPDATE #2 @ 0011 UK time – The aircraft is still cruising at FL380 and is still tracking towards Manchester at this time. Still no indication into the cause onboard as of yet.
UPDATE #3 @ 0012 UK time – G-LSAN is the aircraft involved in today’s incident.
As per data from Planespotters.net, G-LSAN is a 30.4 year old Boeing 757-200 that started out life with Transavia in April 1994.
Furthermore, by November 2003, the aircraft was handed over to ATA Airlines, before going to Axis Airways in April 2005.
August 2007 saw the aircraft returned to lessor GECAS, before being sent to OceanAir, Avianca & AeroGal between December 2007 and March 2010.
Finally, Jet2, the airline who owns the aircraft, took delivery of the aircraft in May 2012.
UPDATE #4 @ 0015 UK time – Jet2 flight LS998, which declared an emergency, does appear to be continuing on to Manchester currently.
Descent & Approach…
UPDATE #5 @ 0026 UK time – LS998 has commenced it’s descent into Manchester.
UPDATE #6 @ 0039 UK time – The aircraft is descending through FL210 as they get ready for arrival.
At this stage still, it is unclear what the nature of the emergency is onboard.
UPDATE #7 @ 0047 UK time – LS998 is on the downwind leg for Manchester.
There is a possibility that the runway for landing may be 23L, which indicates a potential technical issue.
On Finals…
UPDATE #8 @ 0052 UK time – LS998 is now on finals into the airport, emergency landing expected imminently.
UPDATE #9 @ 0058 UK time – TOUCHDOWN! Emergency Jet2 flight LS998 from Fuerteventura has safely touched down on Runway 23L at Manchester Airport.
At this stage, it is unclear what the nature of the incident is.
As soon as we have more information pertinent to this, we will update you accordingly.
For now, this remains a developing story pending additional updates.
UPDATE #10 @ 0059 UK time – Fire crews and ops vehicles making their way to the aircraft now.
UPDATE #11 @ 0939 UK time – @FlightEmergency on X reports that the cause of this morning’s emergency was due to a pilot becoming unwell.
