A Jet2 Boeing 737-800 operating a service from Fuerteventura, Spain to Glasgow diverted to Santiago, Spain after reporting smoke in the cabin on 18 November 2024.
Jet2 flight LS138, a Boeing 737-800, was conducting a scheduled service from Fuerteventura Airport (FUE). The flight was enroute to Glasgow International Airport (GLA).

Whilst en route in cruising flight near Santiago de Compostela, flight crew reported the presence of smoke in the cabin. The crew then decided to conduct a precautionary diversion to nearby Santiago de Compostela Airport (SCQ).
The flight subsequently landed without further incident on runway 35 Santiago de Compostela, approximately 20 minutes after the diversion was initiated.
Emergency services vehicles met the aircraft at the diversion airport and escorted it to the apron hardstanding area. Operating crew repositioned the aircraft to Manchester Airport after being grounded in Santiago for almost a day.
Flight Details
Flight data shows that flight LS138 had made an on-time departure from Fuerteventura Island at 1531 local time on 18 November.
The flight had then proceeded normally, climbing to flight Level FL370 for the northerly service to Scotland. The aircraft subsequently diverted to Santiago as it passed abeam on flight plan track.
The aircraft conducting the LS138 service to Glasgow International Airport was a Boeing 737-800, registered G-GDFP. This is a 26.4 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Jet2. It has been in operational service with the airline since March 2013.
Prior to its current service the aircraft was operated by Lauda Air and Austrian Airlines. It was originally delivered to Lauda Air from the factory in July 1998.
