A Jet2 Boeing 737-800 departing for Manchester made an emergency return to Antalya, Turkey after reporting an engine problem after takeoff on 29 October 2024.
Jet2 flight LS1702, operated by a Boeing 737-800, had conducted a departure from Antalya Airport (AYT). The aircraft was conducting a regular scheduled service to Manchester Airport (MAN).

Shortly after takeoff, flight crew declared an emergency squawking transponder code 7700 during the climb. The departure was terminated and the flight initiated a return to the origin airport.
Prior to its return to Antalya Airport, the flight entered a series of holds off the coast to the south of Antalya. The holding procedure was presumably to facilitate the dumping of fuel to allow the early return and landing.
According to the online source Flight Emergency, the emergency declaration arose as a result of a problem with the aircraft’s number one engine.
Following the holding procedure, the aircraft landed at Antalya Airport without further incident.

Flight data shows that flight LS1702 had made an on-time departure out of Antalya at 2338 on the evening of 29 October. After takeoff, the aircraft had set course normally and was climbing through flight level FL170.
The climb was then terminated, and flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 at 2110 UTC. A direct return was then initiated.
The aircraft conducting the LS1702 rotation to Manchester was a Boeing 737-800, registered G-DRTW. This is a 24.7 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Jet2. It has been in operational service with the airline since March 2019. The aircraft has been given the airline name ‘Bourgas’.
Prior to its current service, the aircraft has passed through the hands of several carriers including Oman air and Primera Air Scandinavia. It was originally delivered from the factory in April 2000.
