King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has recently welcomed the inaugural direct flights from London Heathrow Airport, operated by British Airways.
This new route, which will operate six times a week, offers passengers additional travel options between the two countries.
Jeddah and Saudi Expansion
Eng. Mazen bin Mohammed Johar, CEO of Jeddah Airports Company, was pleased with the partnership with British Airways.
He explained that the new route aligns with the growing demand for air travel between Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. KAIA, he noted, has become a preferred destination for major global airlines due to its strategic location and world-class facilities.
Johar further explained that this development is a significant step toward achieving the goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030. The vision aims to transform KAIA into a global aviation hub. It will connect to 150 international destinations with the goal of serving 114 million passengers annually by 2030.
Substantial investments in airport infrastructure, including the expansion of terminals, runways, and cargo facilities, underpin this ambitious goal.
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, expressed his excitement about resuming flights to Jeddah. He highlighted the airline’s long-standing commitment to connecting the UK and Saudi Arabia.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jeddah back into our route network after our last scheduled service in 2021. We have a long history of connecting families, friends, and businesses with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from British Airways’ home at London Heathrow,” Chernoff said.
