The Lufthansa Group has achieved a further step in its progressive integration of ITA Airways.
With the launch of the 2025 summer flight schedule, ITA Airways’ operations at Frankfurt and Munich airports have been relocated into the Lufthansa Group’s terminals.
This strategic move consolidates all Lufthansa Group airlines, including ITA Airways, “under one roof” at the Group’s key hubs.
The move promises substantial reductions in transfer times and a more streamlined journey for travelers.
ITA Airways Operational Shift
This operational shift, executed overnight, encompassed the entire spectrum of ITA Airways’ handling operations.
From check-in counters and gate assignments to service desks and baggage claim, every aspect has been transitioned to align with Lufthansa Group standards.

Frankfurt Airport
In Frankfurt, ITA Airways has migrated from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1, the heart of Lufthansa Group operations. This relocation, coupled with ITA Airways’ future flights departing from gates A and B, will significantly shorten passenger walking distances.
The move translates to faster and more convenient transfers. Moreover, passengers will now enjoy easy access to the Deutsche Bahn long-distance train station, facilitating seamless onward travel via high-speed ICE connections.
Munich Airport
Similarly, in Munich, ITA Airways has shifted from Terminal 1 to the prestigious Terminal 2 and its satellite, a facility renowned for its five-star Skytrax rating. This terminal, operated by a joint venture between Lufthansa and Munich Airport, will now serve ITA Airways passengers, offering an elevated travel experience.
This integration mirrors the existing streamlined operations at other Lufthansa Group hubs, including Brussels, Rome, Vienna, and Zurich, where all Group airlines already operate from unified terminals.

In Zurich, for instance, the seamless transfer process between SWISS and ITA Airways has long been a reality.
Furthermore, the airlines have strategically positioned their check-in desks adjacent to each other at the majority of jointly served airports in recent weeks, fostering a cohesive and efficient passenger flow.
Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, emphasized the significance of this move. “This is an important milestone in the integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group.”
“Our customers will be able to transfer faster and more comfortably thanks to shorter distances and will have more comfort throughout their entire journey.”
“This also includes the shared use of lounges. This integration gives passengers access to the enormous advantages of the Lufthansa Group, with all its premium airlines and a worldwide route network. It also gives passengers more direct access to numerous destinations to the Italian market. In just two months, we have succeeded in offering our passengers a seamless premium travel experience.”

Codesharing in Summer Schedule
Complementing the terminal integration, ITA Airways and Lufthansa Group Airlines have launched their joint codeshare flights, available since the start of the summer flight schedule.
This strategic alignment of route networks allows passengers to seamlessly combine flights from both airlines within a single booking.
Travelers can now choose from over 100 new codeshare connections within Europe, operated by ITA Airways and Lufthansa Group airlines, including Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Air Dolomiti.
Notably, Lufthansa Group passengers can now access Italian destinations like Alghero (AHO), Lampedusa (LMP), Pantelleria (PNL), and Reggio Calabria (REG) through codeshare agreements with ITA Airways.
Additionally, the codeshare agreement facilitates travel to Tripoli in Libya. The initial demand for these combined tickets has been strong, with over 50,000 sold within the first three weeks.

Reciprocal Lounge Access
Further enhancing the travel experience, ITA Airways passengers now enjoy reciprocal lounge access. They can access approximately 130 lounges within the Lufthansa Group and its partner network. Conversely, Lufthansa Group passengers can now utilize ITA Airways’ lounges.
This expansion of lounge access builds upon the enhanced frequent flyer benefits introduced on February 3, 2025. Miles & More members can now earn and redeem miles and points for their frequent flyer status on all ITA Airways flights.
Similarly, Volare customers can earn and redeem points with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines.
Conclusion
The integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group’s terminals is coupled with the launch of codeshare flights and reciprocal lounge access. The moves mark a significant step towards a more seamless and comfortable travel experience for passengers.
This strategic alignment ensures the Lufthansa Group provides a streamlined service, with enhanced connectivity and premium services across its expanding network.
