Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a global leader in aerospace and defense, has reached a major milestone in its Airbus A330-300 P2F conversion program.

This month, the company moved the first aircraft into the hangar to begin the conversion process, following the successful completion of the final design review.

To ensure smooth production, IAI has established two supply chains. Between 2025 and 2028, the company plans to convert 30 Airbus A330-300 aircraft from passenger to freighter configurations.

A330-300 Conversion Program

The converted A330-300 aircraft will offer an advanced solution for cargo and commerce companies seeking to enhance their widebody cargo jet fleets. These converted models will provide increased cargo space and improved cargo-loading capacity.

This capability is due to the strategic placement of the cargo door. This innovation will support and boost operations related to cargo jet flights.

IAI’s Aviation Group is renowned worldwide for its passenger-to-freighter conversions. The group has now successfully converted various aircraft types and models.

Known globally for its MRO activities, the Aviation Group has developed into a key hub of knowledge and innovation. This has ensured long-term, dedicated customer support and quick responses to all aircraft needs.

Shmuel Kuzi, VP and GM of IAI’s Aviation Group, offered comment on the latest program. “Starting the conversion process on the first Airbus A330-300 marks a significant milestone.”

“It expands our portfolio for customers who want to benefit from IAI’s extensive knowledge, uncompromising quality, and competitive pricing in aircraft cargo conversion.”

Recent IAI Initiatives

This latest achievement comes as IAI’s Aviation Group continues to break new ground. The company is now close to certifying its first-ever Boeing B777-300ER (Big Twin) conversion. Global aviation authorities are expected to approve it in the coming months.

Earlier this year, IAI also introduced its new Global Control Centre (GCC) system. This in-house developed system manages and monitors major projects, including international aircraft conversion programs. The GCC system offers several benefits:

  • Reduces conversion time for each aircraft
  • Optimizes planning and logistics processes
  • Allows for targeted management of potential challenges
  • Presents the conversion process in real-time to customers

With these innovations, IAI continues to strengthen its position as a leader in the aerospace industry, offering cutting-edge solutions for the growing cargo market.
