News has been released this week stating that Iran Air will be sanctioned heavily by France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
This comes following news that Iran has been transferring ballistic missiles to Russia.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
Iran Air To Be Sanctioned…
It is understood that France, Germany and the UK will cancel bilateral air service agreements with Tehran which will affect Iran Air, the state airline.
As mentioned, this is down to the fact that Iran is suspected to have transferred ballistic missiles to Russia.
Furthermore, there is concern that the Russians may use this weaponry against the Ukrainians in the ongoing war.
In a joint statement, they urged Iran to stop supporting the Russian war machine and to halt further missile shipments to the country.
“We will be taking immediate steps to cancel bilateral air services agreements with Iran.”
“In addition, we will pursue the designations of significant entities and individuals involved with Iran’s ballistic missile programme and the transfer of ballistic missiles and other weapons to Russia”.
Many Flights Expected to be Disrupted…
As per Cirium Diio via Airways Magazine, this is set to affect a number of Iran Air flights into Europe.
Over the course of September, around 92 scheduled flights into Germany, France & the UK are expected to take place.
This amounts to nearly 21,000 seats, with a heavy chunk of that at risk due to sanctions.
Furthermore, it will be interesting to see what happens out of this.
Overall…
In conclusion, Iran Air is at risk of losing significant revenue if Germany, France & the UK proceed with the cancellation of the bilateral air services agreement.
With Tehran not appearing to back down in the transportation of missiles to Russia, it is expected these cancellations will take place.
If Tehran does back down, then the agreements will remain in place.
One thing is for sure: The developments will be interesting to watch in real-time.
