South Australian holiday makers will soon have more choice of airlines flying to Bali. Indonesia AirAsia has announced it will commence flying between Adelaide and Denpasar from June 25 this year.

This marks the airline’s marking its first-ever service from Adelaide. It will operate four weekly flights using its 180-seat A320-200 aircraft. This move will add over 74,000 visitor seats annually through Adelaide Airport.

Flights will leave Adelaide on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Return trips from Bali are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This schedule offers flexibility for travelers planning a getaway.

Indonesia AirAsia: First Adelaide Service

Indonesia AirAsia’s entry into Adelaide opens doors beyond Bali. The airline connects to over 130 destinations across Asia and further afield through its extensive network.

Veranita Yosephine, CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, shared her excitement. “We’re thrilled to land in Adelaide and South Australia for the first time. Australia is a key growth market for us, with recent additions like Cairns, Darwin, and Perth.”

She added, “Bali is a top pick for Australians, but we’re also linking South Australia to countless destinations via Bali. Our hub offers affordable travel to unique places.”

“Meanwhile, Adelaide becomes a fresh option for millions of AirAsia passengers worldwide. South Australia boasts incredible arts, landscapes, beaches, vineyards, culture, shopping, and cuisine.”

The airline’s FlyThru service enhances convenience. Travelers can connect from Adelaide to cities like Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok, and Phuket via Bali on the same day.

No need to recheck luggage or check in again for the next flight. Popular spots in Japan, South Korea, India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia are now more accessible and budget-friendly for South Australians.

“We’re grateful to Adelaide Airport, the South Australian Government, and Tourism South Australia for their support in launching these flights,” Yosephine said.

High Bali Travel Demand

Adelaide Airport’s Managing Director, Brenton Cox, highlighted the demand for Bali. “It’s the top destination for South Australians, and affordable flights are in high demand.”

“We’re excited Indonesia AirAsia saw this opportunity. As the first Asia-based low-cost carrier here since 2015, they bring more options. Their network also offers low-cost, one- or two-stop flights to Southeast Asia, Korea, Japan, and India. Affordable travel is key to growing our market.”

The Indonesian Consul General in Sydney, Vedi Kurnia Buana, welcomed the news. “This new direct route between Bali and Adelaide is exciting. It gives Australians more ways to explore Bali and Indonesia.”

“It also invites Indonesians to discover South Australia’s stunning landmarks and heritage. AirAsia Indonesia’s efforts boost tourism and economic ties between our nations. This route will increase arrivals, improve connections, and spark collaboration. We’re eager to see it succeed and will support its launch.”

Conclusion

Indonesia AirAsia’s entry into the Adelaide-Bali market provides a fresh low-cost option among established carriers like Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Qantas, and Batik Air Indonesia.

With four weekly low-cost direct flights, it intensifies competition, particularly for budget-conscious travelers, challenging Jetstar’s dominance in affordable direct routes.

Its FlyThru connections via Bali to over 130 destinations also set it apart, offering South Australians seamless access to Asia and beyond, potentially reshaping the market dynamics for leisure travel from Adelaide.
