India’s leading airline, IndiGo, has taken a further step in its long-haul network expansion strategy. The airline announced a new firm agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways.
This agreement secures the damp lease of three additional Boeing 787-9 aircraft. These additional widebody aircraft are set to arrive in India during the second half of 2025.
This move builds upon a previous agreement announced in February 2025, which secured a single Boeing 787-9. That initial aircraft is on track for delivery and will commence operations on the Delhi-Bangkok route starting 1 March 2025.
Partnership with Norse Atlantic Airways
The addition of these three aircraft brings the total to four leased 787-9 aircraft. It indicates a strong and growing partnership between IndiGo and Norse Atlantic Airways.
Notably, both airlines are actively exploring further opportunities to expand this collaboration, including the potential for additional aircraft leases.
Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, expressed enthusiasm about the extended partnership. “We are delighted to confirm the expansion of our partnership with Norse Atlantic Airways. This is for the damp lease of three more Boeing 787-9 aircraft,” he stated.
“This strategic move will enable us to establish our brand presence in the European market. We are pursuing our broader strategy to strengthen and expand our international network. We are steadily progressing towards our vision of becoming a global player by 2030, firmly rooted in India and driven by continuous expansion.”

Terms of Damp Lease Agreement
The initial term of the new agreement is set for six months. The arrangement allows for a potential extension up to 18 months, pending regulatory approvals.
Both IndiGo and Norse Atlantic Airways are keen to explore opportunities to further extend this period, again, subject to regulatory clearance. This ongoing dialogue underscores the mutual commitment to a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership.
Increasing demand for international travel to and from India drives IndiGo’s strategic expansion. The airline is dedicated to providing exceptional travel experiences across its domestic and international network.
To bolster its long-haul capabilities, IndiGo has also placed a firm order for 30 Airbus 350-900 wide-body aircraft, with an option for an additional 70. Airbus will commence deliveries of these aircraft in 2027.

IndiGo to Date
IndiGo stands as one of the fastest-growing carriers globally.
With a fleet exceeding 400 aircraft, the airline operates over 2,200 daily flights, connecting more than 90 domestic and 35 international destinations.
In 2024 alone, IndiGo welcomed over 113 million passengers, highlighting its significant market presence and popularity.
This latest agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways is a clear indication of IndiGo’s ambition to further its reach and solidify its position as a major player in the global aviation industry.
