Launch of Triple Runway Operations

The launch, led by Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, was attended by key figures. These included Enes Çakmak, General Director of the State Airports Authority (DHMI), Turkish Airlines Chairman Prof. Ahmet Bolat, and iGA Istanbul Airport Board Member Mehmet Kalyoncu.

The event showcased three Turkish Airlines aircraft taking off simultaneously, demonstrating the airport’s advanced capabilities and Türkiye’s robust aviation ecosystem.

A Pioneering Step for European Aviation

Minister Uraloglu emphasized the significance of this milestone. “Türkiye is the only country in Europe to implement this system, placing iGA Istanbul Airport among the world’s top aviation hubs.”

“This upgrade boosts operational capacity, speeds up air traffic, and ensures faster, safer services for passengers. Combined with Istanbul’s strategic location, this system positions our airport as a vital player in global aviation logistics.”

The Triple Independent Runway Operations allow the airport to handle up to 148 aircraft movements per hour, a significant increase from the previous 120.

This boost in capacity enhances efficiency not only for Istanbul’s airspace but also for Europe’s broader aviation network. The system reduces taxi times, minimizes delays, and improves punctuality, offering a smoother experience for travelers.

Turkish Airlines’ Role

Prof. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of Turkish Airlines, expressed his personal pride in the achievement. “This historic moment for Turkish aviation showcases the strength of our main hub, iGA Istanbul Airport.”

“The simultaneous takeoff of three of our aircraft marks a first in Europe. This increased capacity will improve flight efficiency and support our growth as a global airline.”

For Turkish Airlines, the new system translates to shorter waiting times, fewer delays, and better on-time performance across its fleet of over 1,000 daily flights.

These improvements enhance guest satisfaction while optimizing operational costs, aligning with the airline’s commitment to delivering exceptional service.

A Strategic Milestone for iGA Istanbul Airport

Mehmet Kalyoncu, iGA Istanbul Airport Board Member, highlighted the broader impact of the operational expansion. “Launching Triple Independent Runway Operations is a proud moment for Türkiye and a game-changer for European aviation. This is more than a technical upgrade—it’s a strategic milestone that strengthens Istanbul’s role as a global aviation hub.”

The system not only boosts capacity but also supports sustainability by reducing carbon emissions through more efficient operations.

This aligns with Turkish Airlines’ environmental goals, ensuring a greener future for air travel.

A Vision for Global Connectivity

iGA Istanbul Airport aims to serve 200 million passengers annually, solidifying its status as a leading transfer hub. The Triple Independent Runway Operations support this vision by enabling seamless connectivity and superior service.

For Turkish Airlines, the system enhances its ability to connect passengers across the globe while maintaining high standards of punctuality and efficiency.

This milestone reflects Türkiye’s leadership in aviation innovation. As iGA Istanbul Airport sets new global benchmarks, Turkish Airlines remains dedicated to elevating the travel experience and strengthening Türkiye’s role as a vital link in international air travel.

Looking Ahead

The introduction of Triple Independent Runway Operations marks a new chapter for iGA Istanbul Airport and Turkish Airlines.

By increasing capacity, improving efficiency, and prioritizing sustainability, this system positions Istanbul as a key player in global aviation. Turkish Airlines celebrates this achievement as a testament to Türkiye’s ambition and capability to lead the industry forward.

With a focus on guest satisfaction, operational excellence, and environmental responsibility, Turkish Airlines and iGA Istanbul Airport are paving the way for a brighter, more connected future in air travel.
